Book Story

“Launch” is derived from “Langqiao,” the historical name of Hengchun. By adding the suffix “-er,” it becomes LAUNCHER, referring to the people who live on the Hengchun Peninsula.

LAUNCHER COLOR, curated by the Rocketman Lab team, reinterprets the peninsula’s most defining natural forces—sunlight and wind—through the concept of “sun-dried people.”

The book features interviews with 100 local residents, including bookstore owners, café operators, rock musicians, ecological guides, and spiritual mediums, as well as new residents who chose to settle in Hengchun after falling in love with its way of life. Together, they illustrate the diverse possibilities of living in southern Taiwan.

In addition, 11 “wind travelers” who only temporarily stayed on the peninsula contribute their perspectives, offering alternative views on what makes this place so compelling to return to.

More than a lifestyle publication, LAUNCHER COLOR serves as a guidebook to the peninsula—introducing readers to its ocean, mountains, culture, flavors, and industries. It is an all-in-one companion to experiencing life in southern Taiwan.
