Shark cakes are a traditional home-style dish in Yuanli. Every morning, local homemakers visit the traditional market to buy shark paste, mixing it with minced pork and vegetables—each household having its own secret recipe.
Sea Breeze-style shark cakes are made with local shark paste, minced pork, preserved radish, celery, and other fresh ingredients. The mixture is hand-pounded into patties, then pan-fried over low heat until both sides are golden brown. Finally, they are smoked over high heat using rush grass.
The result is a chewy texture with a burst of seafood sweetness, combined with the aromatic fragrance of rush grass—an irresistible “rice killer” dish. Paired with a bowl of springy Yuanli rice, it becomes the perfect taste of home.
